Dutch Design: Frans Hoogendoorn

Dutch Design: Frans Hoogendoorn
By Yoek 12. Januar 2018 6080 Views

In The Netherlands, we have a great amount of fashion designers, among which also The Hague couturier Frans Hoogendoorn. To be honest, we tend to be more focused on other, younger designers like Viktor & Rolf, Jan Taminiau but we mostly forget about Dutch icons as for example Frans Molenaar, Edgar Vos and Frank Govers, who were early changers in the field of fashion in The Netherlands. Right now, there is an exhibition about Frans Hoogendoorn in The Hague, who has been a couturier for over 40 years in this city, home to embassies, international organisations and politics. Frans never felt like being in the spotlight, he preferred to stay low-key and to serve the world of couture and more importantly his customers.

The creations of Hoogendoorn definitely reflect the aristocratic and diplomatic character of The Hague, and therefore the world of international fashion. His designs are influenced by Parisian chic though; his style icons are classic beauties like Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn. We admired some extremely colourful ensembles, some with his trademark; a frivolous bow. Several members of the Dutch royal family love to wear his designs.

The small exhibition can be visited until the 18th of February 2018, in the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague.

Stadhouderslaan 41, 2517 HV Den Haag, The Netherlands

We also visited another exhibition in the Gemeentemuseum, we will tell you more next time! So keep an eye on our magazine blog.
